Note:
The exchange rates applicable to fees and charges collected by the department are calculated according to regulation 5.36 of the Migration Regulations 1994. The rates are calculated every six months and are fixed for the following six months. The department uses the commercial exchange rates, plus five percent. The five percent is mandated by the Migration Regulations 1994. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) is aware that recent world events have impacted upon the rates used by the department and subsequently on clients. DIAC has commenced the legislative process required in order to update the rates used. The new rates will come into effect on 1 January 2010. In the meantime, please be aware that visa applications lodged outside Australia, may be paid for in Australia using AUD.
