[ Domestic helpers travelling with their employers ]

Australia does NOT grant visas to people who intend to work as domestic helpers in Australia. However, a domestic helper can apply to travel to Australia to accompany their employer on a holiday. In such cases, generally a visitor visa for a stay of up to one month only will be granted, provided the domestic helper is travelling with their employer who is resident in Hong Kong.

A maximum of 2 visitor visas will be granted to domestic helpers in the same household in any 12 month period.

Application may be lodged personally, by your representative or sent to the Visa Office by mail.

Processing time

Up to 10 working days - We urge you to lodge your application well in advance of your intended travel.

Please provide the following documents when making an application:

A completed form 48R signed by the domestic helper;
see: Application to visit Australia for tourism (form 48R) (pdf)

The visa application charge;
see: Immigration Charges (fees)

 

Applicant's passport showing a work permit in Hong Kong valid for at least three months;

Applicant's Hong Kong ID card;***

Evidence of continuing employment with the employer (provide a copy of the employment contract);***

The completed undertaking from the employer.

A photocopy of the bio-data page of the employer's passport

One passport sized photograph.

*** Bring originals plus one photocopy to include with your application.

Note:

It is not necessary for employers to accompany their domestic helper to the Consulate to lodge their application. 

If the main purpose for travel is to work as a domestic helper, the applicant will not be eligible for a visitor visa. 

Please lodge your application with all of the above information as incomplete applications can result in delays in processing.
