2009 Australia's Endeavour Awards Open for Applications
Applications have opened for the 2009 Endeavour Awards, a merit-based scholarship program which gives university students, researchers, and executives the chance to study in Australia.
The Endeavour Awards underpin the Australian Government’s strong commitment to international education by exposing high achieving academics and executives in Asia to the excellent opportunities offered by short or long term study, research and professional development in Australia.
For 2008, 466 Endeavour Awards were awarded across 47 countries (including Australia) valued at A$22 million.
Ms Pui Ha Chow, is one of seven Hong Kong scholars who completed her Endeavour Cheung Kong Award and studied the development of the film industry at the Queensland University of Technology.
“My experience of studying in Australia through the Endeavour Awards was crucial in assisting me to complete my research project. It gave me a global perspective of creative motivations which shaped my understanding of the development of the film industry in Mainland China.”
“The study of creative industries at the Queensland University of Technology was more interdisciplinary and the opinions from other international students stimulated me to think big,” said Ms Chow.
Ms Yu Baohua, another Endeavour Cheung Kong Award winner, completed her research in relationships and predictors of international students’ socio-cultural adaptation at the University of Sydney.
“The Award provided me with an exciting platform where I could apply what I learned at the University of Hong Kong to Australia’s wonderful multicultural society and helped me realise I could become an independent researcher. Without the Award, I could not have established my academic confidence so soon.“ Ms Yu said.
The 2008 Endeavour Awards winners’ projects covered diverse fields of study such as medical science, pure science, media studies, life-sciences and cancer immunology. Three Australian scholars also came to Hong Kong under the Endeavour Awards scheme.
The Endeavour Awards are open to all fields of study from postgraduate and postdoctoral studies to vocational courses.
Endeavour Awards available to Hong Kong and Macau applicants are divided into six categories:
-
Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowships (formerly the Endeavour Cheung Kong Awards) - for Hong Kong applicants only;
-
Endeavour Research Fellowships;
-
International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS);
-
Endeavour Postgraduate Awards;
-
Endeavour Vocational Education and Training (VET) Awards; and
-
Endeavour Executive Awards.
The Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowships (formerly the Endeavour Cheung Kong Awards) are part of the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Scholarship Programme, which is jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Cheung Kong Group. It represents the first public-private partnership of its kind and provides exchange opportunities to students in Australia and Asia.
Closing date for applications is 31 July 2008. Each award has specific eligibility and conditions. For details and applications, please visit www.endeavour.dest.gov.au.
