Services for Australians

[ Lost and Stolen Passport ]

If you believe you have lost your Australian Passport or that it may have been stolen, you should report this online or to the Consulate-General as soon as possible, either by telephoning 2827 8881 during business hours, or in person when you come in to lodge an application for a replacement passport. We no longer require a police report as proof of the loss or theft of a passport, but would recommend you obtain one if there are valuables involved, or you will be claiming the loss on an Insurance Policy.

If you wish to apply for a replacement passport immediately, please see the information contained on the page headed Full Application - Form PC8. Under the new Passports (Application Fees) Act 2005, you are required to pay an additional fee to replace your passport if it is lost or stolen. Details of the fees are shown on the Fees page. Please note you will need to prove your Australian Citizenship again (either by way of your original Australian Citizenship Certificate or your full Birth Certificate if you were born in Australia) when lodging your application as well as all other requirements.

If you cannot meet the requirements for the issue of a full 10 year validity passport, it may be possible to issue you with an emergency passport that can be valid for up to seven months.
