Services for Australians

[ Emergency Passports ]

While the Consulate-General has the ability to issue an emergency passport within two working days, applicants should note that such applications are resource intensive and as such emergency passports will normally only be issued to those with an urgent and unforeseen need to travel.

Please note:

Holiday travel will not be considered as urgent or unforeseen. It is your obligation to ensure that your passport is valid, has enough pages and is of sufficient validity just as it is your responsibility to arrange airline tickets, hotels and tours. Forfeiture of monies paid for such travel will not be considered extenuating circumstances.

Planned business travel will also not normally be considered grounds for the issue of an emergency passport. Business people will need to factor a ten working day period into their plans to replace their passport. Those business people with an urgent and unforeseen need to travel will need to provide evidence such as a communication from their employer and recently booked airline tickets.

The issue of an Australian Citizenship Certificate will take on average ten working days. The issue of a full validity Australian Passport will take a further ten working days. Parents should take this into account when planning travel with newborn children.
