Launch of Study in Australia 2010
Australian Consul-General, Mr Les Luck, has welcomed the launch of the Study in Australia 2010 initiative in Hong Kong.
Study in Australia 2010 is a program to ensure Hong Kong students can make an informed choice about their overseas study. Australia remains a top destination for students from Hong Kong seeking a quality, internationally recognised education.
“Australia’s education engagement with Hong Kong has been one of the foundations of our relationship,” said Mr Luck. “The flows of students and academics in both directions have contributed significantly to the development of our economies and our culture.”
“The Australian Government is keen that its highly regarded international education sector is provided with an extra level of support, especially as crucial decisions are being taken by parents, students and international scholarship-granting bodies.” Mr Luck added.
Announced on 16 March 2009 by Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, Study in Australia 2010 encompasses four themes:
- developing best practice guidelines for student welfare and support;
- showcasing the excellence of Australia’s education and research;
- promoting Australia's international education reputation; and
- providing advice and analysis on market trends to Australia’s international education sector.
A two day workshop organised by Australian Education International for education agents was also launched today. The workshop involves briefings on student trends and visa issues.
“We want to ensure that Australia continues to be a leading destination for international students. We recognise the importance that education agents make through their counselling services and aim to ensure that they continue to provide the best service possible,” said Mr Luck.
