DIAC Hong Kong is seeking applications from suitably qualified persons for Assessing Officer positions within the Business Skills Visa Processing Centre.

The successful applicant(s) will be able to examine, assess and decide visa applications under Australia's Business Skills Migration program in accordance with relevant legislation and policy requirements.

Written applications of no more than two pages are required to directly address the selection criteria for the position, and should be accompanied by a CV and the names and contact telephone numbers of two referees. The Selection Criteria are outlined below.

The period of employment will be for one year from the date of commencement, with a 3 month probationary period. The contract may be renewed on a yearly basis at the completion of one year's service subject to performance, workloads and ongoing funding.

A salary of HK$29,203 per month will be offered plus other benefits in accordance with current staff conditions of service.

The successful applicant(s) will be responsible for all relocation expenses to Hong Kong. The Australian Consulate-General can assist the successful applicant to obtain a Hong Kong work visa if necessary. The successful applicant must be available to commence in the position by mid January 2010.

Job Description

Selection Criteria

  1. Good knowledge, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge, of Australian migration legislation and policy, and a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation and exercise sound judgement in decision making.
     
  2. Good planning skills, the ability to efficiently deliver workplace goals, initiative, flexibility, resourcefulness and willingness to participate in continuous improvement processes.
     
  3. Ability to provide a quality professional service, apply ethical work practices and demonstrate integrity in all aspects of work.
     
  4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to independently conduct investigative interviews.
     
  5. A high level of fluency in English and Mandarin is essential.
     
  6. Highly developed computer based information management skills.
     
  7. Tertiary qualifications in commerce, accounting or law are highly desirable.
     
  8. Knowledge of business practices in the People's Republic of China is highly desirable.
